Genshin Impact is a free open-world role-playing game from the studio HoYoverse. In it, you explore the continent of Teyvat, assemble a party of four characters, and fight by switching between them right in battle. You can play on a smartphone, a computer, and PlayStation.

You can download the game and play through the story without spending anything. Money is for those who want to get new characters and weapons faster or unlock additional rewards.

We'll explain what people pay for in Genshin Impact, how to pay for purchases, and how not to spend more than you planned.

Crystals, Wishes, and the Battle Pass: what people pay for in Genshin Impact

The main reason for spending is Wishes, the in-game lottery that drops characters and weapons. One attempt costs 160 Primogems, and most purchases in the game are ultimately meant to get you more of them.

The game hands out Primogems for quests and events, while Genesis Crystals are what's sold for money. They're exchanged for Primogems one to one, and there's no reverse exchange. Genesis Crystals are also used to buy outfits for characters, which change only the hero's appearance.

A 5-star character doesn't drop right away. The game guarantees one by the 90th attempt at the latest, so in the worst case you'll need 14,400 Primogems for it. It's this calculation that most often pushes players toward buying.

Blessing of the Welkin Moon is a 30-day pass. Right after buying it, you get 300 Genesis Crystals, and then 90 Primogems for every day you log in to the game. A missed day isn't compensated.

The Battle Pass unlocks an additional track of rewards for daily and weekly tasks. The paid version is called Gnostic Hymn, while the more expensive one, Gnostic Chorus, also instantly raises the pass level and gives extra rewards.

How paying for Genshin Impact with cryptocurrency works

Genesis Crystals aren't sold directly for cryptocurrency. The official top-up page accepts bank cards, and in some regions also Apple Pay and local payment systems.

In the mobile version, purchases go through the App Store or Google Play, and on PlayStation through the PlayStation Store. None of these stores accept cryptocurrency either.

There are platforms online that top up your account by UID for cryptocurrency or sell top-up codes. You should choose them carefully. All a top-up needs is your UID and server, and if a site asks for the login and password of your HoYoverse account, you're handing over the account itself.

It's more reliable to top up a virtual card with cryptocurrency and pay for crystals on the official page. That way, all the bonuses are credited the same as for any player, and access to your account stays only with you.

A virtual card for buying crystals

A virtual card lets you buy crystals on the official top-up page without intermediaries. You choose the item yourself and pay yourself, and you get bonuses in the same amount as any other player.

The official page is often a better deal than it seems. During promotions, bonus Primogems are added to packs there, and a first order on the site earns separate rewards. All bonuses are visible on the product card before payment.

The card also helps keep your spending in check. If you top it up with exactly the amount of a planned purchase, an impulse spend during a new banner simply won't go through.

Check two things before paying. The card must support 3D Secure, meaning payment confirmation with a code, in case the page asks for it. And the balance must have enough money, taking the top-up fee into account.

Mirocard for paying for Genshin Impact

Mirocard issues virtual Visa and Mastercard cards that you can use to pay for Genesis Crystals, Blessing of the Welkin Moon, and the Battle Pass on the official top-up page.

Mirocard is topped up with cryptocurrency. BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, TON, TRX, and SOL are supported, and once the coins are credited and the amount is transferred to the card, you can use it to pay for crystals, even though HoYoverse itself doesn't accept cryptocurrency.

The subscriptions card, designed for digital services and apps, is the one that suits donations. Its issuance costs from $5, the top-up fee is from 4%, and Mirocard charges nothing for the payment itself. Buying a $0.99 pack and a $99.99 pack costs no extra beyond the top-up fee.

Mirocard's two other cards, the travel card from $15 and the advertising card from $5, are designed for trips and ad accounts. Their features aren't needed for in-game purchases.

We showed how to issue a card in detail in the Mirocard guide. Once the card is ready, payment takes a couple of minutes.

Open the official Genshin Impact top-up page and sign in to your HoYoverse account. Choose an item, whether it's a crystal pack, the Welkin Moon, or the Battle Pass. In the list of payment methods, select "Credit Card/Debit Card".

Genshin1

Transfer the card details from your Mirocard account dashboard. The card number goes in the "Card number" field, the expiry date in "Expiration date", the code in "CVV/CVC", and the cardholder's name in "Name on Card". Check the amount on the right side of the screen and click "Pay".

Now you can log in to the game and enjoy your purchase.

How to calculate the cost of spending and avoid overpaying

Compare not the prices of packs, but the cost of a single Wish. It takes 160 Primogems, and different purchases give you those at very different prices.

Blessing of the Welkin Moon is the best deal for those who log in every day. For $4.99, you get 300 Genesis Crystals and 2,700 Primogems over the month, 3,000 units of currency in total, or almost 19 Wishes. A regular pack at the same price gives 300 crystals, or 600 with the first top-up bonus.

The first top-up bonus doubles the crystals, but only once for each denomination. The doubling applies separately to each pack, so it's best to use it on the denominations you were going to buy anyway.

Without the doubling, larger packs are the better deal. The permanent bonus on them grows faster than the price, and per crystal, a large pack costs less than several small ones.

Compare prices on the official page and in the game. During promotions, the site adds bonus Primogems to the same packs, and for the same amount you get more currency.

Don't forget to add the payment costs. With a 4% top-up fee, the $4.99 Welkin Moon effectively costs about $5.19. For a single purchase the difference is small, but over a year of monthly purchases it adds up.

Before spending, open your Wish history and see how many attempts have passed since your last 5-star character. If you're not far from the guarantee, the Primogems from events may be enough, and you won't have to pay.

Conclusion

You can finish Genshin Impact without spending, and purchases speed up getting characters and weapons. It's more profitable to pay on the official top-up page, where the first top-up bonuses and the site's promotions apply. Decide in advance how many Wishes you need and how much you're willing to spend on them. Then spending stays a calm calculation rather than a reaction to the next banner.
