Grok is an AI assistant from the company xAI. It answers questions, searches for fresh information on the internet and on the social network X, writes and checks code, works with voice, and creates images and videos. You can use it on the grok.com website, in mobile apps, and inside X.

Basic access to Grok is free, but with tight limits. A paid subscription raises them, unlocks new models and additional features, and one subscription works across several products at once.

We'll explain how the plans differ, where to subscribe, and how not to overpay on renewals.

What a paid Grok subscription gives you

A Grok subscription is built as a shared bundle. It unlocks Grok Chat, voice mode, image and video generation in Grok Imagine, developer tools and API access, and also includes the paid features of the social network X.

There are four plans, and the main difference between them is the amount of usage. Plus is the starter plan with a shared limit across all products. Premium gives four times more usage than Plus, Super 15 times, and Ultra 50 times.

With Premium, you get Grok's newest models, faster answers, image and video generation, cloud agents for automation, and tools for working with code. On X, this plan shows fewer ads and gives your replies in discussions higher priority.

Super adds 1080p video and priority access to models during peak hours. Ultra unlocks the most powerful models and the earliest access to new releases.

For everyday questions and occasional work with images, Plus or Premium is usually enough. Super and Ultra make sense if you constantly generate video or load Grok with complex tasks.

Where to subscribe to Grok

There are three ways to subscribe, and which one you pick determines who will charge the money. The plans and prices themselves don't change.

The first way is the grok.com website. Here xAI itself takes the money, from the card you entered in the form. This is the only option where you settle with the company directly.

The second way is the Grok apps for iPhone and Android. In this case, an app store stands between you and xAI, and the payment goes from the method saved in your Apple ID or Google account.

The third way is the social network X, where Grok is included in a bundle with the social network's own paid features.

Remember which way you subscribed. Under xAI's rules, you can cancel a subscription or change plans only in the same place. For example, a subscription bought through an iPhone is turned off in the phone's settings, and grok.com won't have such a button.

If you plan to pay by card, choose the website. Then both payments and plan settings stay in your xAI account.

Can you pay for Grok directly with cryptocurrency

The Grok subscription also renews automatically. That requires a payment method the service can charge repeatedly, and a one-off cryptocurrency transfer doesn't work that way.

How paying for Grok with cryptocurrency works

In this scheme, cryptocurrency tops up not Grok but a virtual card. You send coins to the card service, transfer the amount you need to the card, and enter it in xAI's payment form. To Grok, it's an ordinary Visa or Mastercard.

Renewal works the same way. Before the charge date, you top up the card, and xAI automatically charges next month's payment to it. If there isn't enough money on the card, the subscription may be interrupted.

Which cryptocurrency to choose for topping up

The choice of coin depends on how much the exact amount matters. The stablecoins USDT and USDC are pegged to the dollar, so their value barely changes between sending and crediting. With BTC, ETH, and other coins, the amount can shift with the exchange rate.

The choice of network affects the fee and speed. For example, USDT exists on the TRC20, ERC20, and TON networks, and they're incompatible with each other. Transfer fees also differ across networks, so compare them in your wallet before sending.

The main rule is to send coins only over the network the card service accepts. If you mix up the network, the funds may be lost with no way to recover them.

How to pay for Grok with a Mirocard virtual card

A Mirocard virtual card settles the payment question on grok.com. In xAI's form it looks like an ordinary Visa or Mastercard, so you can subscribe to any plan with it, from Plus to Ultra.

The Mirocard balance is topped up with cryptocurrency: BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, TON, TRX, or SOL. Coins first arrive on your account balance, then the amount you need goes to the card, and xAI takes the payment from it.

For Grok, it's best to issue the subscriptions card. Issuance costs from $5, each top-up from 4%, and it handles recurring charges without your involvement, so the plan will renew on schedule.

We covered registration and issuance separately, in the Mirocard guide. Below is the payment procedure on the Grok website itself.

Open grok.com and sign in to your account. Click "Upgrade" in the "Upgrade your Grok Experience" block in the bottom right corner.

Grok1

Choose the billing period with the "Monthly" or "Annual" toggle, then the plan. For Plus it's the "Get Plus" button, and for the other plans, while a promotion is running, "Claim offer".

Grok2

On the "Configure your plan" page, choose "Card" and enter the number, expiration date, and CVC from your Mirocard account dashboard in the "Card number", "Expiration date", and "Security code" fields. In the "Billing information" block, enter your country.

Grok3

Check the amount in the "Due today" line and click "Agree, Subscribe & Pay". The subscription activates right after payment.

How to renew your subscription and keep spending under control

Look at the price of the second month. On the higher plans, xAI often gives a 50% discount on the first month. For example, Premium in the euro region costs €16 for the first month and €31 after that. Top up the card for the renewal at the full amount.

Account for taxes. xAI warns that the prices on the plans page are shown without taxes and fees. The final charge may be higher, so check the amount on the payment page.

Build in the card top-up fee. At 4%, a €31 subscription will require a top-up of about €32.24, and more with tax.

Cancel the subscription in advance. xAI asks you to do it at least 24 hours before renewal, otherwise another charge may go through. You need to cancel in the same place where you subscribed.

Reconsider your plan. If you rarely hit the limits, a lower plan may be enough. The difference between Premium and Super is several times over, and for regular questions and texts the extra volume is often unnecessary.

Conclusion

A Grok subscription is paid for by card on grok.com and immediately opens access to several xAI products and X features. Choose a plan by the amount of usage, not by its name.

Before paying, check how much the second month will cost, and keep a reserve on the card for the renewal. That way the subscription will run without interruptions or unexpected charges.
